Introducing the Patina Terra Sunglasses
The Terra Sunglasses are Patina’s first eyewear product, designed with the same focus on considered materials, lasting construction and everyday wearability found throughout our clothing.
Sunglasses are usually made from conventional petroleum-based plastics. For the Terra, we wanted to begin with a more responsible material.
Each frame is made in Italy from M49 bio-acetate, developed by Mazzucchelli 1849. It combines naturally sourced cellulose acetate with a plant-based plasticiser, replacing the fossil-based additives commonly used in traditional acetate. The result is a premium material that retains the depth, durability and polished finish associated with Italian acetate, while being largely derived from renewable sources.
Most importantly, M49 is biodegradable under controlled conditions. The material achieved more than 90% biodegradation after 115 days of testing in accordance with the UNI EN ISO 14855-2 standard.
That does not make the Terra a disposable product. Quite the opposite. We designed these sunglasses to be worn for years, using a timeless rounded frame, strong five-barrel hinges and UV400 nylon lenses. Biodegradability simply means the material has been developed with greater consideration for what happens beyond the product’s useful life.
Available in Warm Tortoise with Smoke lenses and Black with Blue lenses, each pair is finished with subtle gold detailing and supplied in a recycled leather case.
Our first eyewear release brings together classic design, lasting construction and a new generation of more considered materials.
